Biography
Pero Kovancaliev lives and works in Skopje, R.N. Macedonia. He is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work is driven by the idea of contributing to the improvement of the cultural, societal, and social environment through visual interventions and artworks that inspire and encourage change toward sustainable development. Through his works, he presents a pacifist mode of communication and provides visibility to marginalized themes suppressed by aggressive marketing industries. He addresses violent exploitation of all kinds, unsustainable traditional practices, and neoliberal policies.
In his work, the idea and intention are the starting point, while the material and technique are chosen in relation to the subject he explores. He works across experimental drawing, painting, photography, video, visual installation, sculpture, and kinetics.
1982 Born in Gevgelija; lives and works in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia
2006 Graduated from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM), Faculty of Fine Arts – Skopje, Department of Sculpture
2018 Completed postgraduate studies at UKIM, Faculty of Fine Arts – Skopje, Department of Sculpture
Kovancaliev works as an independent visual artist and is also active in the fields of marketing and cultural heritage protection.
